Job Title

(LPN) Licensed Practical Nurse

Reports To

The LPN position will report directly to the Clinical Managers.

Position Summary

Responsible for providing general medical care for patients under the direction of a Physician. Assists medical providers with physical exams, procedures and treatments and provides follow up care instructions to patients.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective professional relations with patients, families, and external caregivers.

  • Greets patients, escorts them to exam room and prepares them for physician examination; screens patients for appropriate information, obtaining a brief assessment; instructs patients in collection of samples and tests.
  • Performs general nursing care to patients; administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls; instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Communicates and follow ups on orders from physicians.
  • Oversees appointment bookings, ensuring that preference is given to patients in emergency situations; maintains timely flow of patients.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.

Assists Physicians and medical staff during examination and treatment of patients.

  • Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
  • Ensures medical record is up to date at time of patient appointments. Providers do orders.
  • Documents medication/immunization in patient chart when administered in office. Ensures all consent forms on signed and educate patient prior to any procedure.
  • Strictly follows infection control procedures and safety policies.
  • Assists and supports area staff and other nurses, as necessary.

Maintaining and updating patient charts and records

  • Documents patient medical procedures and services for billing purposes.
  • Reviews and update medications/ allergies with patient.
  • Ensures all required charts, documents, and files are accurate, timely, and in compliance with clinic policies and procedures.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  • Annual CPR, OSHA, HIPPA training/certifications.

Education

  • Completion of an accredited LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) Program.

Work Experience

  • One to three years of similar or related experience.

Certification

  • Current LPN State License.
  • Annual CPR, OSHA, HIPPA training/certifications.
  • Other certifications as required.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Understanding of safety precautions and infection control procedures for dealing with sharp instruments, needles, blood, and body fluids.
  • Knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.
  • Understanding of clinic policies, safety precautions, infection control, and established medical procedures.

Skills/Abilities

  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
  • Positive interpersonal skills and sensitivity.
  • Well organized.
  • Self-directed.
  • Able to coordinate well with others.
  • Able to use all related medical equipment, machines, monitors, and computer applications.

Physical/Abilities

  • The work requires moderate physical exertion such as extended periods of standing, repetitively lifting lightweight objects with frequent bending or stooping, recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. Occasionally lifts heavy objects. Job requires average agility and dexterity.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.

Work Environment

  • Regular exposure to unfavorable environments such as body fluids. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, coats, gowns, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
